Meet Our Future Entrepreneurs

At Bergman & Beving, we're all about making lasting changes and helping out where we can. That's why we're committed to B&B's group-wide partnership with Hand in Hand, an organisation that empowers communities in Kenya by providing knowledge in business development and sustainable practices. Our commitment is to support the village of Cheboin, aiming to help establish 175 businesses and create 228 jobs by 2026. In this article, we introduce you to some of the aspiring entrepreneurs we're supporting through Hand in Hand.

Mema Widows Help Group

The Mema Widows Self Help Group is made up of 20 members from Merigi in Cheboin Village. Formed in 2022, the group’s goal is to improve the economic standing of the widows in their community. They meet weekly, with each member contributing 150 KES (about 1.2 USD) to a common fund, raising 3,000 KES (around 23 USD) each week. The member who receives the funds contributes 1,000 KES (about 7.7 USD) back into the group’s account, allowing them to save at least 4,000 KES (approximately 30.7 USD) per month.

The Mema Widows Group faces challenges in sourcing high-quality chickens and affordable feed for their commercial poultry farming. Since joining Hand in Hand Eastern Africa (HiH EA) in April 2024, they are eager to learn new entrepreneurship skills, including resource mobilisation, business planning, financial management, and collective marketing.

HiH EA has already provided training in establishing a strong leadership structure and developing a constitution with clear goals to guide the group towards success. We will continue to track and support the Mema Widows Group on their journey toward prosperity.

Meet Ronald Kipkirui Cheluget

Ronald Kipkirui Cheluget is a member of the Kuriot Self Help Group in Cheboin Village. He is a father of two sons and works as a dairy farmer. Despite his efforts, Ronald earns an average of 4,600 KES (about 35.3 USD) per month, barely enough to meet his family’s needs and cover his sons’ schooling costs.

Ronald faces challenges with marketing his products, bookkeeping, and managing his savings. By joining Hand in Hand, he hopes to gain valuable skills in accounting, savings management, and value creation to improve his business. Ronald is especially looking forward to learning how to create a savings plan and access credit, which will allow him to increase his business capital and expand his dairy farm.
